No wonder the Mogul has a reputation for the finest steaks in Mammoth. The restaurant started out in 1971 as a cook-your-own-steak place, and operated very successfully in that mode for the next 14 years. Seeing it was time for a transition, the Mogul changed to grill cooking in the dining room, done by the servers. It really works. Seated in a warm atmosphere that is all mountain, diners can choose from top sirloin, New York strip steak, filet mignon, and porterhouse. All are center cut, and are choice or better in quality.
The Mogul has been voted "Best Steak Place" by Mammoth Times readers for numerous years. But they do have other things that steaks. They offer prime rib, rack of lamb, and pork loin. Specials include veal chops and fresh fish. Three or four different kinds of fish are offered - always the freshest available. They serve marinated boneless breast of chicken and Cajun chicken. Both are expertly char-grilled over an open flame. The fresh garden salad bar is one of the town's best, and it is included with most on the entrees. Dinners are not generally offered a'la carte, but rather include the salad bar and bread. Dinners get an ample amount of food for the price.
Smaller dinners are available for lighter eaters. Diners may also make their own combinations. You may select to have steak and chicken, or prime rib and shrimp, or steak and crab. Most restaurants are unwilling to combine entrees, but it is standard procedure for the Mogul. A full bar and wine list are available as well.
